Description
Magewappa, meaning "bent woodware," is a traditional Japanese woodcraft made from raw wooden boards such as cedar and cypress. These boards are bent and curved using special techniques, and the bark of mountain cherry blossoms binds the seams. Magewappa containers, commonly used as lunch boxes, tableware, and serving vessels, have been popular for over 2,000 years and are still widely used for several reasons.
Why use Magewappa?
- First, rice stored in a magewappa remains delicious even when cold. The wood's natural properties allow the rice to stay plump, as the wood breathes and regulates humidity naturally.
- Second, magewappa containers are lightweight yet durable. With proper use and care, they can last much longer than plastic lunch boxes. The more they are used, the tighter and more durable the wood becomes.
- Third, magewappa enhances food presentation. The wood's color and beautiful grain contrast beautifully with the food, elevating the dining experience by serving as a high-quality vessel.

These bento boxes are coated with urethane, so they can be used to hold a variety of dishes and can be cleaned with a non-abrasive sponge and gentle dishwashing detergent. Please stand them up and allow them to thoroughly dry after washing.
*Before using the magewappa, moisten the inside with water to prevent rice grains from sticking to the dry wood.
